AEW Revolution Predictions: Who Will Prevail in the Battle of the Adams?
Baker vs. Rosa, Jericho vs. Kingston, and a Dog Collar Match for the Ages
For the first time since November, AEW will take center stage for a pay-per-view. Revolution takes place from the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, a city that has seen two Wrestlemanias. The show has a card that has a similar feel to Wrestlemania, and many matches seem like they could go either way. Fresh off the heels of Tony Khan’s purchase of Ring of Honor, there also could be a chance we see former stars of the promotion become All Elite. Here are my picks for the show on Sunday, and who I think is walking away with some of the top gold in AEW.
TBS Championship: Jade Cargill (c) vs. Tay Conti
For the second AEW pay-per-view in a row, Tay Conti is receiving a title shot, this time against the undefeated Jade Cargill. The two Wrestling Observer Newsletter award winners have never faced off one on one, and Conti is easily Cargill’s toughest challenge to date. This is one of those bouts that can go either way, depending on how much AEW believes in Conti as a top star. If they do, the Brazilian can leave Orlando with her first title in AEW. Despite this, I think Cargill’s streak stays alive, and Jade gets the win in a close encounter.
Prediction: Jade Cargill via pinfall to retain the TBS Championship
Triple Threat Match for the AEW Tag Team Championship: Jurassic Express (c) vs. reDRagon vs. The Young Bucks
Out of these three teams, it feels like the champs are on the sidelines when it comes to the build for this match. Instead, the focus has been on the battle between former ROH stalwarts, reDRagon and The Young Bucks. Both teams earned the right to face Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, with the Bucks picking up an impressive win last Wednesday in the Casino Tag Team Battle Royale. Since the Bucks and reDRagon are in a storyline with each other, I see them costing each other the match, leaving the current champs on top. Jurassic Express pick up the win after communication goes awry between Adam Cole’s four best friends.
Prediction: Jurassic Express via pinfall to retain the AEW Tag Team Championship
Six Man Tornado Tag Team Match: Andrade El Idolo, Matt Hardy, and Isaiah Kassidy vs. Sting, Sammy Guevara, and Darby Allin
This bout is equally as frustrating as it is promising. The TNT Championship should be on the line somewhere on this show, but instead, the champ is stuck in a six-man tag bout on the undercard. With that said, the six men in this match are all phenomenal workers, and are some of AEW’s brightest talent. I can’t see Sting taking a loss in this type of match, plus I think the storyline between Matt Hardy and the rest of the A.H.F.O is starting to come to a conclusion with Hardy potentially on his way out of the stable. The faces leave with a win.
Prediction: Sting, Sammy Guevara, and Darby Allin via pinfall.
Chris Jericho vs. Eddie Kingston
Two matches on this card have been built with words instead of actions, and this is the first of the pair. Jericho and Kingston are masters of the microphone, and Le Champion is playing the heel in this one. Meanwhile, Kingston wants to earn the respect of the inaugural AEW Champion, and I think he gets it done. Eddie wins this bout after a back and forth affair, and Jericho shakes his hand and welcomes him into the Inner Circle afterwards.
Prediction: Eddie Kingston via pinfall
AEW Women’s World Championship: Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. (c) vs. Thunder Rosa
When Dr. Britt Baker first won the AEW Women’s World Championship, everybody had a match with Thunder Rosa pegged for some point down the road. Nearly ten months later, we have reached that “some point down the road.” No Lights Out stipulation this time. Instead, a standard wrestling match between two of AEW’s best female workers. As far as a winner goes, I’m leaning towards giving Rosa the belt. I’m not sure the Doctor has anyone left to face, and if Rosa isn’t the one to beat her, I don’t know who will. Maybe they will keep the belt on Baker until Hayter is ready? Could be a possibility, but I think Rosa winning is simpler.
Prediction: Thunder Rosa via pinfall to win the AEW Women’s Championship
Face of the Revolution Ladder Match for a Future TNT Championship Opportunity: Orange Cassidy vs. Wardlow vs. Keith Lee vs. Ricky Starks vs. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Christian Cage
Even though the TNT Championship is not on the line at Revolution, the chance to become #1 contender still hangs in the balance. Each man has their claim to the brass ring, but I think three men have better odds than the others. Wardlow is in line for a huge singles push, especially once he leaves MJF. Keith Lee is AEW’s shiny new toy, and a match against Guevara would be an instant classic. However, Starks is the sleeper in this bout. He is the current FTW Champion, and a Starks win could vault him to main event status. I’ll go with the dark horse, although to be fair, any of the six is a solid pick.
Prediction: Ricky Starks grabs the brass ring
Dog Collar Match: CM Punk vs. MJF
It’s fitting that one of wrestling’s most violent stipulations finds its way into the most bitter feud in AEW. Punk and MJF have been going at it for weeks, and it all came to a head in Chicago, where the Salt of the Earth scored a huge win. The rematch is set for Sunday, and blood is almost a guarantee, especially after last week’s Dynamite where Punk bled profusely. I have a feeling that he gets the victory in the rematch, leading to one more clash between the pair. If that’s the case, the audience are the real winners here.
Prediction: CM Punk via pinfall
Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson
There is no doubt that a match between Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson has been in fans’ minds for years, and the two are finally set to collide at Revolution. Danielson does not want to fight Moxley, but it’s the only way that the two could form an alliance with some of AEW’s younger talent. Names like Lee Moriarty and Daniel Garcia have been floated around it. Personally, I think that stable happens no matter who wins the bout. My guess is that the stable will be a group of faces, therefore Mox gets a much needed win in his pay-per-view return.
Prediction: Jon Moxley via pinfall
AEW World Championship: “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Adam Cole
It was only a matter of time before Adam Cole got his shot at the AEW World Championship. I’m just surprised that it’s happening so quickly. In only five months since his debut, Cole is undefeated in AEW, and the #1 ranked wrestler in the company. His opponent is his former Bullet Club stablemate, “Hangman” Adam Page. This defense is Page’s first on pay-per-view, and it’s a toss up whether or not he keeps the belt past Sunday. In the battle between two of AEW’s brightest stars, I believe Cole ends up victorious, setting up that dream match with Kenny Omega sometime down the line.
Prediction: Adam Cole via pinfall to win the AEW World Championship
