Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley is the Best Possible Wrestlemania 38 Main Event
The dream match wrestling fans have been clamoring for may finally happen
Last week, I wrote an article detailing WWE’s latest fight with COVID-19, fearing that the worst case scenario could happen. Well, on Saturday afternoon, just hours before the Day One premium live event, Universal Champion Roman Reigns announced that he had tested positive for the virus, and his scheduled match with Brock Lesnar was called off. Instead, the Beast Incarnate was a last-minute addition to the fatal four way match for the WWE Championship. Before Saturday, all four men were cleared to take part in the match, but Lesnar walked away with the victory and the championship to the surprise of many.
With Wrestlemania coming up in just a few months, speculations have arisen as to what the plans could be for Lesnar, Reigns, and the world championships. The original plan was reportedly for match 3 of the Reigns-Lesnar trilogy, in which Brock might have taken the title. With Lesnar now on the RAW brand, his Wrestlemania plans are more wide open than ever. This leaves a certain All Mighty waiting to take the WWE Championship from the Beast.
When Bobby Lashley returned to WWE in 2018, only one thing was on the mind of the WWE Universe: a match with Brock Lesnar. It did not even have to include the world championship, just a one-on-one bout between the two behemoths would suffice. On an episode of RAW, Lashley fought Roman Reigns for the right to challenge Lesnar at Summerslam, but he came up short. The boos were strong for the future Tribal Chief, who would go on to win the championship at the pay-per-view.
It’s been nearly four years since Lashley’s return to the company, and the dream match with Lesnar has a stronger possibility than ever. The Atlanta crowd was most electric during the Lashley-Lesnar stand-off. In a business where plans can change on a whim, there is no better case here. Instead of Reigns-Lesnar, WWE has to think quickly and change the Wrestlemania main event to Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship.
The two would tear the roof off of AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Imagine the big fight feel that the two most unstoppable superstars over the past several years would bring. The two former World Champions have run roughshod throughout the roster, beating almost everyone in their path. When they finally collide, it will be tough for the WWE Universe to decide who to root for.
It’s also worth noting that Bobby Lashley had his signature move, the Hurt Lock, in on The Beast Incarnate during the fatal five way match at Day One. Lesnar was unable to break the hold, only getting freed when then-champion Big E saw his title chances slip away. Of course, Big E would be on the receiving end of an F5, which marked the end of his title reign.
As for the Universal Championship, this leaves the door open for a new challenger to Roman Reigns. A logical choice would be Drew McIntyre, but he’s dealing with several injuries at the moment. A trade for a RAW Superstar may work as well. There’s unfinished business between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, and the two have phenomenal chemistry in the ring. Could that be a potential Wrestlemania marquee match? Or could we see another name step up to the Tribal Chief?
Nonetheless, WWE has to give the fans what they want. Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar has been on the minds of the WWE Universe for many years, and now is the best time for them to strike while the iron is hot. Not only could the dream match happen, but for the top prize in the company on the grandest stage of them all. The Tribal Chief will be just fine in his own feud, while Lashley and Lesnar light up Dallas on Wrestlemania weekend.
