The Philadelphia Union returned home in a foul mood. The club lost their first game of the season last week and were anxious to get back to their winning ways. Philly looked to add to their league leading point total with a win over CF Montreal.
First Half
The first half of play started with the Union on the attack. They quickly took control and had a few close calls from close range. Unfortunately, some of their passes were off target, and none of their shots found the back of the net. The capacity crowd at Subaru Park made their presence know when the home team was awarded a penalty kick opportunity. And they were thrilled even more moments later when Julian Carranza knocked in to give the Union a 1-0 lead in the 21’. The Andre Blake chants broke out in the 30’ minute as the All-Universe goalkeeper thwarted a corner attempt. The remainder of the half was spent having Philadelphia repeatedly turn away any attempt CF Montreal made to set up their offense. There was 2 minutes of stoppage time which the teams burned off with little action taking place. and after one half of play the score remained 1-0.
Second Half
The Union kept on the pressure to start the second half. Forcing CF to stop ,ultiple scoring opportunities. In the 55’ Alejandro Bedoya much to his chagrin was issued a yellow card caution after a suspect tripping call, where he pretty much whiffed on the tackle. Things would get a little tight when Montreal would tie the game at 1-1 in the 59’ as a shot barely got past Blake on his left side. Philadelphia would try to answer back on a free kick opportunity by Kai Wagner but it was unsuccessful as it sailed wide to the right. Coach Curtin made two subs in the 67’ to try and provide a spark. While the Union did come close they were not able to take the lead late in the match. So at the end of regulation the score remained 1-1. There would be 4 minutes of additional stoppage time. The extra time started with a horrible call on Wagner who was issued a yellow card for a phantom shove. Luckily, the Union quickly recovered to gain possession. And that’s how the match would end.
Final Score 1-1
